When is bone grafting required?
Before you receive a single tooth implant, multiple tooth implants, or implant supported dentures, it may be necessary for you to undergo a bone graft.
Bone grafting could be an option if you:
- Have one tooth or multiple teeth missing and it’s been some years since you lost the tooth or teeth. Often bone weakens and even disappears, making it too weak to support the base and crown of the implant. Bone graft will preserve your socket and allow you to have implants.
- Suffer from severe gum disease which has caused your teeth to become loose and fall out
- Have a weak jawbone due to injury or long term use of dentures
- Have a cleft lip or palate, which may have impacted on the number of adult teeth to come through
When is bone grafting required?
It usually takes between three and six months for the bone graft to heal completely. Your dentist will provide clear instructions on the post-operative care to take after your procedure. Once full healing has occurred, the jaw and gums affected by the bone graft will be ready to support your single tooth or multiple tooth implants.
If you would like to restore your smile and confidence with socket preservation using a bone graft, we invite you to get in touch with Lillybrook Dental. We know we can help you!
